2008 Jazz Heritage Series
It's become a time-honored tradition. Now in its 19th year, The United States Air Force Band is proud to announce the 2008 Jazz Heritage Series.
On Saturday, September 6, DownBeat's Male Vocalist of the Year, Kurt Elling, will join the Note at Lisner Auditorium for the season opener.
On Friday, October 3, trumpeter Allen Vizzutti, called "trumpet player supreme," will grace the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable evening.
On Saturday, November 8, double bassist Rufus Reid, heralded by the New Yorker for "...his luscious sound and buoyant swing..." will join the Note for the season finale.
All three concerts will start at 8 p.m. and are free and open to the public. No tickets are needed. Lisner Auditorium is located at 730 21st Street Northwest, Washington, D.C., on the campus of George Washington University. The nearest metro station is Foggy Bottom/GW

Ceremonial Brass Celebrates 10th Year on "Today" Show
In what has become an annual tradition, the USAF Band Ceremonial Brass performed on NBC's "Today" Show on July 4th in honor of Independence Day. This year was the 10th appearance the band made on the broadcast, and for many members, it was pleasantly familiar territory.
"The opportunity to represent the United States Air Force in front of millions of Americans was such an exhilarating experience," said Chief Master Sgt. Ed Teleky, Drum Major of the Ceremonial Brass. "Each year our performance on the 'Today' show on our nation's birthday never loses its excitement."

Ed Teleky, drum major and NCO in charge of the U.S. Air Force Band's Ceremonial Brass, July 4 during a live broadcast from Rockefeller Plaza in New York. The Ceremonial Brass has performed annually on the show since 1998. Both Holt and Morales are children of career Airmen.

Clinician's Corner - "Practice Makes Perfect, but What Makes Practice?"
This month we feature practice tips from cellist Technical Sergeant Joshua Kowalsky of the Concert Band. He hails originally from Interlochen, Michigan, and began his Air Force career in 2006.
Technical Sergeant Kowalsky is a 1995 graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. In 1999 he graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music and in 2001 he earned a Masters of Music from the University of Michigan. He went on to earn a Performance Diploma from the Hochschule Für Musik in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2004.
TSgt Kowalsky has performed with James Levine, Kurt Masur, Evgeny Kissen and Vadim Repin. As a soloist TSgt Kowalsky had performed at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Library of Congress and while on tour in Germany, Poland and Switzerland. His former teachers include Michael Sanderling, Anthony Elliot and Richard Aaron.
