| The Airmen of Note Perform with Wayne Bergeron Friday the 13th was a lucky night to be a trumpet player in Washington, D.C.! That evening the Airmen of Note performed before a packed crowd at the Harris Theater on the campus of George Mason University for the National Trumpet Competition. The featured artist for the evening was Wayne Bergeron, a Hollywood studio trumpeter who has performed on many major motion pictures, television shows, and recordings for top music artists. Just in time for Jazz Appreciation Month, The United States Air Force Band is proud to announce the 2009 Jazz Heritage Series Radio Broadcasts are now available on demand from our website. This year's program features three world-class musicians: Kurt Elling, Allen Vizzutti and Rufus Reid. Each performance was recorded live from Gabriel Hall in Historic Hangar II--the home of The USAF Band--and was hosted by broadcast veteran Dick Golden. Through a partnership between the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army, the streaming broadcasts of the Jazz Heritage Series are provided by Soldiers Radio and Television. |

String Quartet Performs at Convention The United States Air Force String Quartet, a component of the AF Strings, performed at the California Music Educators Association's (CMEA) annual convention in March. CMEA is a federated unit of the Music Educators National Conference, and is open to all music educators working in public and private schools, colleges and universities in California. Chamber Players Series

So far, The United States Air Force Band's 2009 Guest Artist Series has been a resounding success. Over 3,000 people attended the two performances at the Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. These concerts featured two icons in popular music: country music legend Charley Pride and the "First Lady of contemporary jazz," Keiko Matsui. Also on the program was clarinetist Katherine Kohler, winner of the 2009 Colonel George S. Howard Young Artist Competition.

Spring Tour is in the Air!
It's hard to believe that it has been over seven years since the Concert Band and Singing Sergeants have been on tour through the upper Midwest. Taking place April 17-May 1, the two groups will combine for a 17-day tour through the great states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota! Special Broadcast Taping at Strathmore!
For the third consecutive year, The United States Air Force Band is proudly partnering with Maryland Public Television to create a special musical tribute to America's veterans. America's Veterans: A Musical Tribute will feature world-renowned guest artists and will be taped for future broadcast on public television stations nationwide. Plans are still underway for this event--this year's lineup of guest artists will be announced at a later date. Previous guest artists include Patti LaBelle, Clint Black and Empire Brass.
