The USAF Band Summer Series Mark Your Calendars--Summer Series Starts NOW

The United States Air Force Band invites you and your family to make this a summer to remember by joining us for the 2011 Summer Concert Series. Featuring the Air Force Strings, Airmen of Note, Concert Band, Max Impact and Singing Sergeants, the Series takes place at landmarks such as the Air Force Memorial, the west steps of the U.S. Capitol Building and local high schools in Virginia and Maryland. All performances are at 8 pm and are free of charge; no tickets required.

As professional musicians, we continually strive to obtain technical mastery on our respective instruments. For most of us, this is an understood life-long process. However, the process of developing musical maturity can be a more difficult concept to grasp, because this process may seem less straightforward and concrete than say developing technical prowess. Therefore, it can be a daunting task, especially when approaching a brand new composition or a lesser known and performed work.

Colonel A. Phillip Waite Band Commander Promotes to Colonel


The Assistant Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Richard Y. Newton III, presided over the promotion of Colonel A. Phillip Waite to Colonel April 29 at Historic Hangar 2, Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Washington, D.C. Col. Waite was joined by many of his friends and family members, and the ceremony featured performances by Brass Quintet and the Singing Sergeants.

The Stars Shine at Strathmore

The USAF Band at Strathmore Hall


On May 12, The United States Air Force Strings, Airmen of Note, Singing Sergeants, Ceremonial Brass and Max Impact joined forces with a host of world-class guest artists at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, Md. The performance was the fourth annual concert gala, "America's Veterans--A Musical Tribute."

Colonel A. Phillip Waite Band Names New Superintendent


Chief Master Sgt. Carl Long, of The U.S. Air Force Band, stepped away from his 24-year career as a performer to assume the mantle of band superintendent April 26.

Chief Long now works the administrative side of the house, assisting with details that oversee the USAF band's approximately 2,000 performances a year. Former superintendent, Chief Master Sgt. Elizabeth Schouten, is slated to retire Aug. 1.
