"America's Veterans - A Musical Tribute" 2011 This year's "America's Veterans - A Musical Tribute" will feature Country music sensation Jo Dee Messina, Irish tenor Ronan Tynan, legendary jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, winner from Season 3 of "So You Think You Can Dance" Sabra Johnson with The U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note, Air Force Strings, Ceremonial Brass and Singing Sergeants. Most musicians would agree that excellence is achieved when the mental and physical aspects of creating music work together to allow one's performance to reach a higher level. It is no wonder that many professional musicians strive for that same sort of excellence in their endeavors outside the musical realm. An example of this is found in Tech. Sgt. America's Veterans: A Musical Tribute May 12 - Bethesda, Maryland Chamber Player Series May 19 - Ft. Washington, Maryland |

For much of the month of March, the Airmen of Note toured through the states of Virginia, Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. Their performances garnered tremendous enthusiasm, with stirring tributes to Armed Forces veterans. This particular tour also had some very special moments, including a packed-house performance that was also broadcast to over 100,000 listeners, as well as a special guest performance with a living legend.

Band Superintendent to RetireChief Master Sgt. Elizabeth Schouten, Superintendent for The USAF Band, will retire this spring, after 30 years of service in the Air Force. Chief Schouten began her career as a clarinetist in the Concert Band in 1981. She has performed with the Concert Band in concerts and ceremonies in the 48 contiguous states and seven different foreign countries. Her distinguished career also boasts playing for seven Presidential Inaugural Parades, from President Reagan to President Obama.

Airmen of Note Honored for Outstanding Recording
The Airmen of Note, the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force, received the first place award for music in the Air Force Public Affairs Agency's 55th Annual Media Contest. The ensemble won "Outstanding Recording" for their historical compilation CD entitled "Airmen of Note 60"--a recording that celebrates the dynamic, 60-year heritage of the Airmen of Note.
