Former Singing Sergeant Debuts with the Metropolitan Opera
Nathan Carlisle, a former member of the Singing Sergeants, made his debut with the Metropolitan Opera on September 18. In a performance that was a tribute to the late Luciano Pavarotti, Nathan had the opportunity to sing Verdi's "Requiem" under the baton of James Levine. The performance was broadcast on satellite radio and the internet. Nathan was a member of the Singing Sergeants from 2003 until 2008, and his contributions will be sorely missed.

In a moving ceremony on a picturesque late summer morning, the U.S. Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants provided a musical tribute to the 184 people who lost their lives at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. Seven years after the attacks, the Pentagon Memorial was unveiled. President George W. Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and several Supreme Court justices were in attendance, along with other military and civilian dignitaries. | The world-renowned United States Air Force Band will be in the national spotlight in a Veterans Day televison spectacular when the Symphony Orchestra and Singing Sergeants join a dazzling lineup of celebrities and recording artists to present "America's Veterans: A Musical Tribute." The program premieres Nov. 10 on public television stations from coast to coast. For service members and their families stationed overseas, the program will be broadcast on American forces Network Prime (AFN Prime) Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. viewer time overseas. Read more... |

Air Force Band Yuma and Kyrgyz Citizens Share Culture Through Music

The United States Air Force Band Yuma, also known in the U.S. as Max Impact, played ten concerts in the Kyrgyz Republic during an eight-day tour Sept. 4-11. Yuma is a 5-person band that fuses elements of contemporary music from today's hip-hop, pop and urban sounds - and everything in between. During their performances, they covered such well-known bands and artists as Destiny's Child, Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera and Jimmy Hendrix, not to mention original works of the band itself. Their visit to Manas AB included multiple performances at a number of schools, orphanages and other venues in the local Kyrgyz communities. During a trip to the Bishkek Music College, it was clear from the first soulful notes of the Black Eyed Peas smash hit, Let's Get It Started, that Yuma's lead vocalist, Master Sgt. Regina Coonrod, could belt out any song and paint a smile across the audience. Read more... |
Simple Gifts: A Holiday Concert Celebration
This year's holiday show, "Simple Gifts", will feature the United States Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants in a special musical presentation at DAR Constitution Hall. This concert is sure to make your season a little brighter and will even include a few visitors from the North Pole! Our program will include holiday favorites, such as "The Twelve Days of Christmas," selections from "The Nutcracker," and "The Eight Days of Hanukkah." And no Air Force holiday concert is complete without the annual sing-a-long!
