New Downloads from the Airmen of Note In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Airmen of Note, you can access five new tunes from our website. The tracks include "Sabre Jet" and "Loch Lomond" arranged by former "Note" arranger Sammy Nestico; "Uno Mas" and "Blues for Mundy" arranged by retired Senior Master Sgt. Roger Hogan; and "Night Clouds" arranged by retired Senior Master Sgt. Mike Crotty. The selections are from "Airmen of Note 60," a retrospective recording detailing the history of the Air Force's premiere jazz ensemble--from its early roots in the Glenn Miller Army Air Forces Orchestra to the world-class big band of today. "Follow the Music" By Master Sgt. John Bliss Music Production, The USAF Band At my children's violin class, the teacher allows the students to take turns leading the group songs. On one occasion they were asked to play together without a leader, at which one student laughed, "The music is the leader!" He didn't realize how truly he had spoken. "Following the music" should be the primary goal of writers, performers and conductors. But first you have to figure out where the "music" is going. 2010 Winner Alison Miserendino
The United States Air Force Band is now accepting applications and audio recordings for the 2011 Colonel George S. Howard Young Artist Competition. This year's competition is for woodwind instrumentalists in grades 9-12. The 2012 competition will be open to brass and percussion players. Finalists are invited to a live audition in Washington, D.C., to perform for the competition committee in January 2011. The winner will be flown to Washington, D.C., with one chaperone to perform with The USAF Band in February or March 2011. The deadline for submission is November 2, 2010.

Max Impact is "Locked and Loaded"
The newest video from Max Impact, "Locked and Loaded," is now available from our website. The video was filmed on location in Las Vegas and Washington, D.C., and is part of Max Impact's call to inspire the newest generation of professional Airmen. The music was composed and arranged by Tech. Sgt. Matthew Geist, and Master Sgt. Ryan Carson and Tech. Sgt. Robert Smith penned the lyrics. "Locked and Loaded" is one of many tracks from the album "Connected", which is available from our online discography.
Concert Band and Singing Sergeants on Tour
| This October, the Concert Band and Singing Sergeants will head north for a 21-day tour through the states of N.Y., N.J., Penn. and Md. All performances will be free and open to the public, but tickets will be required. Please refer to our calendar for the latest information regarding dates, locations and ticket distribution information.
