Senior Master Sgt. Erica A. Montgomery is principal timpanist with the Concert Band, The United States Air Force Band, Washington, D.C. Additionally, she performs with the Ceremonial Brass, Chamber Players and Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her performance duties, Sergeant Montgomery is the accessions manager for the Band. A native of Louisville, Ky., she began her Air Force career in 1997.

Sergeant Montgomery earned a Bachelor of Music performance degree in 1988 from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. While attending the U of I she was a recipient of the prestigious Edgard Varese Percussion Award. In 1990, she graduated from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with a Master of Music degree in performance. Before joining the Air Force, Sergeant Montgomery served as principal timpanist with the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and Illinois Symphony, and principal percussionist with the Owensboro Symphony. Additionally, she has performed with the Louisville Orchestra, Evansville Philharmonic, West Virginia Symphony and the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. Her former instructors include Bill Platt and Richard Jenson of the Cincinnati Symphony, James Culley and Allen Otte of the Cincinnati Conservatory and Thomas Siwe of the University of Illinois.
