11/8/2012 - Washington, D.C. -- On Sunday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., The United States Air Force Band will once again proudly partner with Maryland Public Television to honor those who have served in all branches of the military with a live Veteran's Day broadcast of "America's Veterans: A Musical Tribute." The one-hour program will feature musical performances and short vignettes highlighting members who currently serve. The special will be aired on PBS stations in Maryland, Virginia and Delaware, and will repeat on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 8 p.m.
This year's performers include "American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard, who became known as "The Velvet Teddy Bear" during his run on season 2003 of the award-winning show. World-renowned tenor, Anthony Kearns, the original founding member of the singing sensation, The Irish Tenors, will also be featured. The Irish Tenors are considered one of PBS' most successful entertainment acts to date.
The tribute, hosted by Washington's WRC-TV news anchor Aaron Gilchrist, will feature a mixture of classic patriotic favorites from The United States Air Force Concert Band and the official chorus of the U.S. Air Force, the Singing Sergeants. All of the artists will perform in front of a small audience in MPT's Owings Mills studios.
This year's honorees are:
· Staff Sgt. Leigh Ann Hester, U.S. Army
· HM2 Luis Fonseca, U.S. Navy
· Col. Anthony Henderson, U.S. Marine Corps
· Lt. Aaron Renschler, U.S. Coast Guard
· Tech. Sgt. Robert Gutierrez, U.S. Air Force
"America's Veterans" has become a perennial favorite on public television. The United States Air Force Band is proud to honor all those who have served in our nation's military.
