Recollections - Photo 1 In 1944, General Henry "Hap" Arnold organized an Anglo American Lend-Lease program which called for an exchange of bands between the United States Air Force and the Royal Air Force. The Army Air Forces Band's left Bolling Field on December 5, 1944 and returned on April 5, 1945. This photo was taken on March 15, 1945 at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. According to Master Sgt. (USAF, Ret.) Ivan Genuchi's detailed scrapbook from that tour, this was a posed photo, i.e. no parade and no concert (much to the disappointment of the civilian population). After the Band returned from this photo op, several were treated to a performance that evening by the Glenn Miller Army Air Forces Band in the hotel dining room in Paris and again during the Miller Band's 10 p.m. recording session.
